Choose indoor or outdoor first
Outdoor courts need weather-resistant construction, drainage and UV considerations. Indoor courts can focus more heavily on controlled surface performance, sub-floor cushioning and environmental conditions.
Acrylic court systems
Acrylic systems can be built in layers over a suitable base. The specification can include primer, resurfacer/cushion layers, color coats and line marking. The exact build-up should match the site and intended usage.
Wooden basketball courts
Indoor hardwood systems use a different construction approach and require suitable sub-floor preparation, cushioning and protective finishing. They are generally considered when an indoor sports environment is planned.
Base preparation and drainage
For outdoor projects, cracks, slope, water flow and concrete condition need to be addressed before surfacing. Drainage should prevent water from repeatedly sitting on the court.
Line marking and court layout
Accurate markings are part of the playing experience. The layout should be established from the approved court dimensions and checked before final coating.
Maintenance
Routine cleaning, checking surface wear, repairing cracks and maintaining drainage can help preserve the playing surface. The maintenance method should follow the coating or flooring manufacturer's guidance.
